Year of the Earth Ox

This year is expected to be characterized by the diligence, reliability, sincerity, strength and sound judgment of the ox.  Earth is stable, but requires a lot of energy to move it.  This could be interpreted to mean that it will take a lot of energy to rectify our current difficulties in the real estate (earth) market.  The best times this year are predicted to come during the transition of the seasons, or earth periods, such as late April or late July.  The strongest time overall will be late summer just before fall sets in.

Upcoming Meeting:  March 28

Please plan to join us and your colleagues on March 28 to gather ideas, weigh professional concerns, and create a stronger local acupuncture community. Lisa, Alex and Suzzanne, your board members, will each a give a short teaching about one of our favorite clinical treatments.  We will  send you a notice soon about location.

Membership Renewals Due by March 15

If you have already renewed your membership, GREAT!  Remember that ASDC members are listed on our website, which has proven effective for attracting new clients. Members get a 10% discount at all MAS and VAS seminars and workshops and also receive discounts from vendors and for various seminars (such as the recent Building Bridges of Integration seminar).

Volunteers for Medicaid Project Needed

Acupuncture services are now covered under Medicaid's Home and Community Based Services Waiver for persons with developmental disabilities. The Department on Disability Services in DC is very interested in having qualified providers for their consumers. We need someone to research the Medicaid requirements, find the necessary forms, summarize the steps required to apply as a qualified provider so that we can publish this information to our members.

As a professional association, we want to be responsive to our community's needs. Please contact Lisa Eaves (
lisaeaves@heal-from-within.com) to volunteer for this project. We can only do this with additional help.

AAAOM Calls for Board Members

The American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAAOM) is expanding and needs your help!  There will be two open Board seats at the next AAAOM election in April and the organization needs committed individuals to fill these leadership positions. The AAAOM needs people with skills that can contribute to developing appropriate strategic initiatives. These skills include: understanding of governance, communication skills, understanding of the legislative process, financial acumen, and an understanding of non-profit organizational management. Any one person does not need all of these skills.  Together each individual becomes a collaborative part of the team which can achieve the goals set before it.  This cannot be done without your participation and support. Participate as a AAAOM Director and help define our future through your actions.  Nominations are being accepted at http://www.aaaomonline.org/interactive.asp?ID=19.  Please forward this to others who may have the time and talent and encourage them to apply.  For more information, contact Corinne Axelrod at corinne929@gmail.com
