A Note from the President

The DC community has asked for our help, help that ONLY WE can provide. The DC Department on Disability Services (DDS) contacted ASDC for to find qualified, licensed practitioners to care for their covered residents. The Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) provides services that enable people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live meaningful and productive lives in our community.

Acupuncture is a covered service, reimbursable at $70/hour, but no acupuncturists are registered. They will lose this service if it is not utilized.

ONLY LICENSED ACUPUNCTURISTS CAN PROVIDE THIS SERVICE. We are uniquely qualified and are being called on for our help. Become a representative of our profession to this city and particularly, to this community. We have an opportunity here to expand our profession, to become known as Medicaid Providers, to be received as a caring profession in the city where we live.

I would like to report to the DDS Director, that at least five of our members have applied to become providers. Please let me hear from you, that you know what a privilege it is to do this work, and that you have applied to become a provider. You can start here:

How do I become a new provider?

Membership Status

As of December 31, 2008, DC’s license renewal deadline, there were 116 ACTIVE, licensed acupuncturists in Washington, DC.
We are still receiving applications and checks for memberships and renewals. THANK YOU to all of you for your support!

We are not able to contact all the licensed practitioners however. As you know, we ask for emails and website addresses on our application. But the list we obtain from the Board of Medicine does not have accurate mailing addresses for everyone listed. We’d appreciate any outreach that you can do for the organization.  If there are practitioners in your neighborhood or that you know, please tell them or send them our website and/or Membership Application.

There are many more recipients of this newsletter than have actually joined. We would greatly appreciate your support.

Meeting March 28, 2009

As you know from our last newsletter, ASDC will be meeting at least three times this year. Our first meeting is: March 28, 2009. We will be meeting at the Cleveland Park Library from 10:00am – Noon. The library is metro accessible from the Cleveland Park Metro, 2 blocks north, on the west side of Connecticut Avenue. One block from the Uptown Theater, if that helps. We’d like to see as many of our members as possible. We have the following agenda:

  • Membership status and update
  • Financial Report
  • Upcoming Events
  • Question & Answer:  we really want to hear about your needs!
  • Practice Protocol/Business Tips

The next two meetings are scheduled for:

  • July 21, 2009, Tuesday evening
  • October 3, 2009, Saturday morning

NEW! Acufinder.com and ASDC

Soon all ASDC members will be listed on Acufinder.com--one of the most complete and largest websites on acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.  Acufinder.com also coordinates with Acupuncture.com, so your name will also be listed on that website as an added benefit--and at no cost to you.  Look for your listing in the coming weeks, once we have closed this year's membership drive.  We also are developing an ASDC logo, which will be added next to your Acufinder.com listing in the near future.

Membership Benefits:  ASDC membership includes discounts to suppliers and workshops.  When you become a member, we will e-mail you a list of suppliers and workshop presenters who offer you discounts.  This is a great year to take advantage of these discounts!
